The rigid deck on a rig had structural weaknesses that required it to be taken out of service and repaired. The repair had to be done during normal operation on the rig, which meant that all work had to be done as cold work.

Because the helideck already had structural weaknesses, it was not possible to build large suspension scaffolds with high weight and large windings under the helideck. The solution was to use CAN’s methods for small and light welding habitats mounted in the workplace, where access to and from the habitats was carried out using the access technique.

CAN was responsible for welding all reinforcement structure under the helideck, as well as preparation of method descriptions, supply of personnel for welding, NDT inspection and welding follow-up, surface treatment, rigging and construction of habitats.
